Abstract

Out of 82 national CPI monitoring cities, 35 cities experienced inflation while 47 other cities experienced deflation. The highest inflation occurred in Lhokseumawe City of 1.09 percent, while the highest deflation occurred in Ambon City of 2.08 percent. The city of Palu experienced inflation of 0.05 percent, ranked 5th highest in the region of Sulampua and 32nd nationally.
The highest increase in price index occurred in the foodstuff category (1.53 percent), followed by health group (0.27 percent), finished food, beverages, cigarettes and tobacco (0.26 percent), clothing (0.24 percent ), as well as education, recreation, and sports (0.04 percent). In the same period, the price drop occurred in the transport, communication and financial services group (1.80 percent) and housing, water, electricity, gas and fuel (0.05 percent).
The inflation rate for calendar year up to August 2017 was 4.04 percent, while inflation year on year (August 2017 to August 2016) in Palu was 5.36 percent.
