The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) recorded that inflation in Palu City in February 2024 was 0.30 percent on a monthly basis or month to month (m to m). On an annual basis or year to year (y to y), inflation in December 2024 reached 2.31 percent with a Consumer Price Index (CPI) of 104.85.


Based on BPS data, the City of Palu in February 2022 experienced deflation of 0.52 percent, in February 2023 it also experienced deflation of 0.17 percent, and in February 2024, the City of Palu experienced inflation of 0.30 percent.


"Referring to data from the last three years, Palu City always experiences deflation in February except that in February 2024 it experienced inflation of 0.30 percent," said Head of BPS Palu City, G. A. Nasser in a press release, Friday (1/3/2024).




Contributor to Palu City Inflation




Nasser explained that food commodities will be the main contributor to inflation in February 2024. Rice is the main commodity contributing to monthly inflation with an inflation contribution of 0.25 percent. Followed by Selar fish with a contribution of 0.14 percent, Mackerel fish and Cakalang fish each contributed 0.05 percent to inflation.




Meanwhile, the commodities that made the main contribution to monthly deflation were cayenne pepper at 0.10 percent, red onions and sweet corn at 0.05 percent each, yellowtail fish at 0.04 percent, and purebred chicken at 0.03 percent.


"Rice this time contributed to inflation of 0.25 percent after previously contributing to deflation of 0.01," he said.




In February 2024, the expenditure group that makes the main contribution to annual inflation is the food, beverage and tobacco group at 0.29 percent. Followed by the clothing and footwear group at 0.01 percent. Including the personal care group and other services contributed 0.01 percent.




“Meanwhile for the housing, water, electricity and household fuel groups; Health group; "Information, communication and financial services groups, their share remains stable," he said.
