PALU- Welcoming National Statistics Day, BPS Palu City planted mangrove trees at Dupa Beach, Service Indah Village, Mantikolore District. Head of BPS Central Sulawesi Province, Simon Sapary, said that mangrove plants are known to have various benefits and a very crucial role for environmental sustainability. Mangrove plants are believed to be useful in stabilizing coastlines, reducing erosion from storm surges, currents, waves and tides. The complex root system of mangroves is also attractive to fish and other organisms that seek food and shelter from predators, including crabs, shrimp, shellfish and others. According to him, the expanse of mangrove plants is one of the things that is quite significant in protecting the local community, so that they avoid the dangers of tidal waves, sea tides which result in erosion and other things. “We really appreciate the positive activities initiated by friends in the statistics community this morning.
